When a limited company ceases operations, the directors or owners must proactively apply to the Companies Registry to have the company’s name removed from the register. This is a vital step to formally end your legal obligations.

The deregistration process typically takes 7 to 12 months (or longer depending on the case). This involves obtaining a Notice of No Objection from the IRD, submitting the application to the CR, and awaiting the official Gazette notices as required under Section 751 of the Companies Ordinance.
